The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) is a regional, independent, non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening social science research and knowledge production in the Arab world.

Every 2 years, the ACSS organizes a conference with a specific theme. Kite was asked to develop the identity of the ACSS 4th conference titled “Power, Borders and Ecologies in Arab Societies: Practices and Imaginaries” that was held in Beirut on April 12-14, 2019.

After experimenting with various techniques and diverse visual elements, the final direction composing the identity was based on a texture created out of scratches that connote the idea of disruption, thus, directly reflecting on the conference’s theme. The intricate relations created by the intersection of the visual elements, and the bold and structured typographic composition reflect on the struggles, tensions, power relations, challenges, and complex patterns highlighted in the conference topics.

The branding of this three-day event comprised the design of posters, certificates, e-invites, posters,  promotional items, screen and social media visuals, signage, spacial branding, and publications.
